The God Who Rides for You

Three Powerful Responses When Under Spiritual Attack

By Brian Kinsey & Jack Cunningham

“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty… The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms… Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord?” — Deuteronomy 33:26–29

There are seasons when life is more warfare than fun. Uncertainty and pressure hits you on every side. But in this scripture is a divine reminder that you are not abandoned, exposed, or defenseless.

The God you serve is not distant. He is not passive. He is the God who rides across the heavens to help you. That means heaven is moving on your behalf.

Before your enemy can form a plan, God already has a response. Before fear can settle into your spirit, His everlasting arms are already beneath you. Before the battle reaches your door, the Lord has gone ahead of you in majesty, power, and covenant faithfulness.

You are carried by eternal strength. What has felt too heavy for you was never meant to be held by you alone. God is your refuge, your defender, your resting place, and your victory banner.

The same God who sheltered Israel is still shielding His people now.

This is your day so, break your agreement with fear and intimidation.

The Lord will drive out what has resisted you. He will break the oppression, silence accusing voices and establish you in security that allows you to keep moving forward. What looked threatening will bow to the authority of God over your life. The Lord is not only preserving you—He is positioning you to triumph.

  • You are not marked for defeat.

  • You are marked for deliverance.

  • You are not forgotten in the battle.

  • You are surrounded by majesty.

  • You are a person saved by the Lord.

Walk today with the assurance of faith that Heaven is backing you. The everlasting arms are under you and the God who rides on the heavens is still fighting for His own.

When a believer or minister comes under spiritual attack, the natural human response is often to become defensive, angry, or hardened. However, Scripture teaches that God’s protection, favor, and intervention are often released through the opposite response.

When facing spiritual opposition, a believer should intentionally respond in three ways:

1. Soften your spirit and responses

2. Humble yourself before God

3. Show mercy, grace, and kindness

These responses invite the blessing, favor, and protection of God into the situation.

Soften Your Spirit and Responses

One of the most powerful spiritual disciplines during conflict or attack is refusing to harden your spirit. A harsh response often escalates conflict, but a gentle spirit invites the intervention of God.

Proverbs 15:1 says “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

When attacked verbally, emotionally, or spiritually, the enemy hopes to provoke bitterness, anger, or retaliation. But the believer who answers with a soft spirit and controlled response disarms the situation.

Jesus Himself demonstrated this spirit.

1 Peter 2:23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.

A softened spirit does not mean weakness. It means strength under control and trust in God’s justice.

Charles Spurgeon once said: “Soft words may be harder to utter than sharp ones, but they are far more powerful.” When we refuse to respond in anger, we leave room for God to work on our behalf.

Humble Yourself Before God

Spiritual battles are not won through pride, self-defense, or human strength. They are won through humility before God. The Bible consistently teaches that God personally defends the humble.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith,God resisteth theproud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Humility does something powerful in the spirit realm. When a believer humbles himself before God:

God releases grace

God resists the enemy

God brings divine help

James 4:7 says “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Notice the order:

1. Submit to God

2. Resist the devil

3. The devil flees

Humility positions us under the authority and protection of God.

1 Peter 5:6–7: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Andrew Murray wrote: “Humility is the place of entire dependence on God.” When we humble ourselves, we step out of self-defense and step into divine defense.

Show Mercy, Grace, and Kindness

Perhaps the most powerful response during spiritual attack is showing mercy when it would be easier to retaliate. Jesus taught that mercy invites the mercy of God.

Matthew 5:7 says “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”

Mercy creates a spiritual atmosphere where God’s favor can move freely.

Romans 12:17–21: Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Mercy and kindness are not passive responses. They are spiritual weapons that overcome evil. Jesus modeled this even on the cross.

Luke 23:34: Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Kindness often breaks the cycle of hostility and opens the door for God to move.

The Result: God’s Favor and Protection

When believers respond with softness of spirit, humility, and mercy, they position themselves for divine help.

God promises to defend, bless, and protect those who trust Him and walk in His ways.

Isaiah 54:17 says “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”

Psalm 37:5–6 says “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

The believer does not need to fight every battle personally. When we respond according to the Spirit of Christ, God Himself steps into theconflict.

A Soft Spirit invites peace

Humility releases grace

Mercy invites God’s favor

And when God enters the situation, the battle begins to change and the victory becomes possible.

 Yours for the Kingdom,

Pastor Kinsey
